Impacts on the Brain: Alcohol & Other Substances

2:30 AM National Drugs and Alcohol Facts Week is a national health observance is sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).  The brain regulates your body's basic functions, enables you to interpret and respond to everything you experience, and shapes your behavior. Drugs can alter important brain areas that are necessary for life-sustaining functions and can drive the compulsive drug use that marks addiction. This year we invite you to this webinar which will explore the impact that alcohol and other drugs have on the human brain. Facilitator: Breonna Wilkes, Center for Child & Family Services

2026 Annual Community Resource Refresh Forum

1:00 PM This is a free event for community partners and the public.  Click here for the flyer and “Free Vendor Registration Form”.  If you would like to participate in the 2026 YPDSS Community Resource Refresh Forum, please complete the registration form and return. Note: Senator Danny Diggs will be our event host and there will be a demonstration of the “Red Sand Project”.  The Red Sand Project promotes and educates the community regarding human trafficking.

Community Baby Shower

11:30 AM The event is hosted and supported by the League of Women Voters-WA , the YJCW NAACP, Omicron Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center and Birth in Color. This event will provide information/resources on topics such as pregnancy health & wellness, doulas/midwives, car safety and community resources. Expectant mothers must register and attend sessions in order to receive a gift bag.

6th Annual Cars for Chris Car Show & Safe Driving Awareness

9:00 AM The 6th Annual Cars for Chris Car Show and Safe Driving Event is more than just a fun event—it raises vital funds for the Christopher King Foundation, helping our team speak in schools across the state of Virginia about the importance of seat belt safety. *Free entry for spectators.
