He will discuss emerging trends in substance use, recent scientific findings on health effects, and how this evidence can inform prevention, treatment, and public health efforts. July 11th 11:00am-12:15pm Adolescent Alcohol Use: Emerging Trends, Risks, and Interventions This session will review current trends and discuss risk factors associated with problematic alcohol use, including the relationship between alcohol use and mental health. We will explore strategies to recognize and address alcohol intoxication and withdrawal, as well as medication treatment for alcohol use disorder. Participants will leave this session with practical tools for screening, early intervention and treatment, and harm reduction strategies across settings. August 11th 11:00am-12:15pm THC Today: Potency, Addiction, and Health Risks in the Era of High-Purity Cannabis Over the past two decades, the concentration of THC — the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis — has risen dramatically, transforming the drug from a relatively mild plant-based substance into a highly potent chemical product. This presentation explores how the increasing purity and synthetic manipulation of THC have changed its effects on the brain and body, raising concerns about addiction, mental health, and the emergence of cannabis-induced psychosis.
